15 Reasons You Shouldn't Be Ignoring Robot Vac

Top Rated Robot Vacuums

A robot vacuum can keep floors clean enough to decrease the frequency you need to manually vacuum. Select a vacuum with good navigation, can clean stairs and corners, and that has a large bin that only needs to be cleaned out every now and then.

There are models that mop and charge themselves This is an advantage that is essential for families with pets or children. Many of the best performers in our tests have great ability to overcome obstacles.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO is identical to its sibling the i3 EVO. They differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a great alternative for those who want a an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the dust bin once it gets full.

Both robots do well cleaning up surface debris from hard floors and carpets, and they're very adept at maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean efficiently. However unlike the i7+ and other top rated robots we evaluated the i3+ does not have any obstacle-avoidance features, so it may get stuck on things such as socks or power cords and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces like from hardwood to rug.

iRobot suggests cleaning up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other clutter it might come across. It's also recommended to keep the dust bin and filter clean so that they do not become blocked by dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is low, it returns to its docking station and automatically empties its dirt into the station's dust bin and then resumes cleaning the area where it left off. The battery's lifespan is around an hour-and-a-half of continuous usage. It takes 3 hours to fully charge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the latest technology. It is self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most significant feature is the self-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that lets it map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can control your robot via the app or voice.

In our testing the i7+ performed more agile and faster than our second-placed model, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surface types including carpeting. The biggest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin that eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning session and move around the room and vacuum the area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. Once connected, to voice commands to the i7+, such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums with cords that look like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model is an automobile. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households and can fit perfectly next to the coffee table or a bookshelf where you can wave it around like an enchanted device.

The V10 is powered with a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that produces energy that lasts for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system traps allergens and releases cleaner air back into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets and pick up large crumbs or fine dust. It has three suction modes that can be adapted to the task. It quickly converts from floor vac to handheld vacuum and back again.

The model also comes with a dock that charges to 100% in about 3.5 hours and offers an easy access to two attachments and the wand clip. This is a huge improvement over previous Dysons that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its limited run time. Its claims on the market that it has up to 60 minutes of running time are a bit misleading as CR's tests have shown. This is a standard, not exceptional, battery-powered vacuum's run time. This is enough time to vacuum the typical home but not enough to reach every spot. (A second pass generally works). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeable superior for carpet floors with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums The 694 is an entry-level model that's a great choice for people who don't wish to spend too much on a robot. It was able to pick up the majority of types of debris in our testing and often went over the same area many times to give an efficient clean. The flat front of the unit allows it to reach into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice addition.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it isn't equipped with the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models such as our top choices and the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. Because of this, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently runs out of battery power before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi  robot vac uum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways, as it has fewer components that require regular maintenance and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and does a better job maneuvering itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and is charged faster.

The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips and can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistant. It is also more durable, has a stronger motor, and is more effective on low-pile and bare floors.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name that you see on all sorts of home electronics, so it comes as no surprise that they're also one of the top robot vacuum and mop manufacturers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is packed with cutting-edge onboard technology for navigation and obstacles avoidance.

The app provides a range of options to customize your robotic cleaner. These include virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior modifications docking frequency settings and much more. The app is easy to learn and use, just like other Samsung devices.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors. It removed 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It didn't do very well in avoiding taller objects like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested and this could be a deterrent for some buyers.

The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that can be accessed via the app. You can also set up a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you check in on your children or pets while you are away. The dustbin and the filter can be cleaned to ensure an easy, quick clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with self-emptying clean stations, which helps keep the bin clean and improves suction power.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Black and Decker robots have been developed specifically for flooring made of hard wood. They have a wider cleaning path and an extra-large dustbin that holds 2X more debris than the competition to keep the cleaning area clear for maximum runtime. Plus, they include two side sweepers to clean along edges and in corners. The POWERSERIES model also comes with AutoSense which adjusts the power level according to whether it's collecting surface dirt or embedded dirt. The vacuum also has an app that allows you to view an interactive map, control functions, and create schedules. Additionally, you can track the battery's status and return it to its dock to charge by pressing the button. The app also lets you to personalize the lights on top of the vacuum using different colors, so that you can easily identify which areas it's focused on or where it's gotten stuck.

The application also allows you to steer the robot manually should you need to. For instance my living room rug has a darkly colored border that has a tendency to cause confusion for other robots I've tried. However, the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, but it didn't register it as a cliff. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving benefit.
